The Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) conducted a thorough inspection of several government offices under Longleng district, highlighting both commendable practices and critical concerns regarding the functioning of key departments. While PSC acknowledged the positive working environments maintained by some offices, it expressed deep concern over the persistent absenteeism of several Heads of Departments (HoDs) and staff, a practice which is impeding the smooth operation of government services and negatively impacting the delivery of essential public services to the citizens.
The inspection revealed that the Village Guard office continues to face significant challenges, particularly due to the absence of a proper kote facility. The construction bill for this essential infrastructure has not yet been approved by higher authorities, leading to delays in resolving the issue. PSC strongly urged the concerned department to expedite the matter to ensure the proper functioning of the office.
In the District Food and Civil Supplies Office, PSC found that a severe shortage of staff is undermining the office’s efficiency, further hindering its ability to serve the public effectively. Additionally, the Public Works and Housing Department (NPWD) was identified as being understaffed, with Longleng district still lacking both an Executive Engineer and an SDO office (Housing). This absence, despite Longleng being a district headquarters, reflects government negligence and has caused significant difficulties for employees in the Housing department.
Similarly, the Land Records and Survey Department was found to be operating without a regular LDA and two SFAs, leading to disruptions in the office’s day-to-day functions. PSC called for immediate action to address the staffing gaps and improve the overall functioning of the department.
Reaffirming its commitment to promoting accountability and transparency, PSC appealed to all government officers and staff to uphold punctuality, sincerity, and dedication in their duties, emphasizing the importance of their roles in public welfare. The conference also reminded HoDs and staff to remain stationed at their respective postings and to attend their offices regularly, as absenteeism is unacceptable.
Imkongchingba Phom, General Secretary and Convener of the PSC Inspection Committee, warned that offices without HoDs and essential staff would not be tolerated. He further stressed that officers who prioritize DPDB meetings over their regular duties cannot be deemed dedicated or committed to public service.
Furhter the conference warned that an office without HoDs and its establishment Staff (branch) would not be tolerated, whilst adding that officers who attend only DPDB meetings without performing their regular duties cannot be considered sincere and committed to service.
The release further warned that PSC would continue its inspection drives and shall not hesitate to take necessary measures in the larger interest of public service.
