
‘Our hard-earned freedom should not be taken for granted’
As part of a series of events commemorating the 75 years of India’s Independence, Press Information Bureau (PIB), Kohima and Field Outreach Bureau (FOB), Kohima under the ministry of information & broadcasting, government of India organised a webinar on “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” on August 24.
In a press release, PIB Kohima informed that while speaking on the occasion as resource person, vice principal & professor of political science, KROS College Kohima Hinaco Assumi reminded that India’s hard earned freedom should not be taken for granted but pursued with zeal and responsibility as so many lives have been sacrificed in getting it.
Unfolding the events that led to the East India Company’s rise to power with the fall of the Moghul Empire in India, Hinaco recalled the important events of the Indian freedom struggle starting from the Sepoy Mutiny of 1957, which was also known as the first Indian freedom movement to the subsequent movements including Home Rule Movement initiated by Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Annie Besant, the birth of the Indian National Congress, the Swadeshi Movement, etc.
Recalling the sacrifices, he said so many unsung heroes had died in the freedom struggle and the befitting tribute to them would be to follow the path they had shown and to carry the country forward.
Earlier, giving the welcome address, P Sophie, in-charge, FOB, Kohima said the ministry of information & broadcasting was organising a series of events during the month as part of the celebration of the 75 years of India’s Independence.
In his vote of thanks, assistant director, PIB Kohima, K Sonikumar Singh thanked all the participants including students, faculties, officers and staff of PIB and FOB offices from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland. Around 40 persons attended the webinar.
