PIB Fact-Check Unit Debunks Fuel Price Hike Rumors

The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit on Wednesday dismissed as fake a viral social media post claiming petrol and diesel prices had been raised by up to ₹12.50 per litre. It clarified that no such order has been issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, urging citizens to rely only on official sources and avoid sharing unverified claims. The clarification came after a purported government notification suggesting sharp fuel price hikes circulated widely online, sparking concern.

Reassuring consumers, Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma of the Petroleum Ministry said there is no proposal to increase retail fuel prices at present, despite volatility in global energy markets due to tensions in West Asia. She confirmed that petrol, diesel, LPG, and CNG supplies remain adequate, with 100% availability ensured for domestic and transport needs. The government stressed that prices remain unchanged and urged the public not to panic, underscoring its commitment to maintaining stability in essential fuel supplies.
