PICU of CIHSR achieveslevel three accreditation

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of CIHSR Hospital, Chumoukedima, has been awarded Level 3 accreditation by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics Intensive Care Chapter (IAP-ICC) on January 2, 2025.

In a press release, CIHSR Consultant Pediatric Intensivist Dr R Wonashi Tsanglao and director CIHSR Dr.Sedevi Angami informed that the recognition follows a rigorous inspection conducted by IAP-ICC representatives in May 2024 and subsequent approval by the accreditation council.

The IAP-ICC is a dedicated branch of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics that focuses on advancing knowledge, skills, and standards of care in pediatric critical care medicine.

Achieving Level three accreditation places the PICU at the pinnacle of pediatric critical care in India. A Level three PICU provides advanced and comprehensive care for critically ill children with complex medical, surgical, and trauma conditions. It is equipped with specialized staff, infrastructure, and technology to manage the most severe cases.

Currently, there are around 59 Level 3 PICUs across the country, and the CIHSR PICU proudly joins this list. Notably, it currently stands as the only Level 3 accredited PICU in the entire northeast region of India.

Department of Pediatrics at CIHSR Hospital has already been running a DNB Pediatrics postgraduate specialty training program under the National Board of Examinations since 2022. With this new accreditation, the PICU is now eligible to initiate training courses for nurses in pediatric critical care medicine under the IAP-Indian College of Pediatrics.

This development will not only elevate the quality of healthcare available to children in Nagaland but also set a benchmark for pediatric care in resource-limited settings. The achievement also underscores CIHSR Hospital’s commitment to excellence and innovation in pediatric healthcare.
