Pig import, crackers banned in Niuland

DIMAPUR, DEC 19 (NPN)

Following reports of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in several districts of Assam neighbouring Dimapur and Niuland, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Niuland has temporarily banned import of pigs and piglets, as well as transport of live pigs and pork (meat) to Niuland district from outside the district with immediate effect.
In an order, DC Niuland Sara S Jamir stated that the ban would remain in force till the spread of disease was curbed or till it was safe to resume the import of pigs. DC warned that any violation of the order would be punishable under relevant provisions of law.
DC reminded that ASF was a highly contagious viral disease and could affect the economy of the farmers in case of its contamination and spread in the district.
Bans fire crackers: DC Niuland, in another order, has banned the manufacture, sale or usage of any type of firecrackers within Niuland district with effect from December 19, 2025.
DC noted that firecrackers were being burst in Niuland district and Niuland town despite of orders and advisories issued on ban of its usage.
DC stated that bursting firecracker of any type was responsible for increasing air pollution and related illness including sore throat, breathing issue, cough and noise pollution causing undue disturbance to the public/ offices harming humans, animals and environment.
DC cautioned that defaulters would be penalised under relevant section of the law and fine of Rs. 5000 would be levied on those found violating the order.
