Various organisations and educational institutions observed “World Environment Day” on different days. With a call to preserve and protect the environment, plantation and cleanliness drives were carried out in their respective vicinities.
PUBC Kohima: As part of World Environment Day, Police Union Baptist Church organised a plantation drive on June 5, at new Police Reserve, Kohima.
According to a DIPR report, speaking at the plantation drive, DGP Nagaland, T. John Longkumer stated that the Police department in partnership with the Forest department has undertaken a massive plantation drive all over the state where 10 Police units have planted a total number of 20,000 saplings this year.
Expressing gratitude for the successful initiative, the DGP acknowledged all the police personnel for taking part in the drive.
After the church service, the police personnel planted around 100 saplings on the Church premises.
PBCA: In Longleng, Phom Baptist Church Association in collaboration with World Vision, India Longleng observed PBCA – Green Mission Sunday & World Environment Day with MP Rajya Sabha, S. Phangnon Konyak and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, Dharmendra Prakash as special guest and guest of honour on June 5 at PBCA conversation hall, Nyengching.
In her speech, Phangnon Konyak urged upon the students and public to make Longleng the “warriors of climate change” by following the initiative of PBCA.
Phangnon pointed out that although climate change was a global issue, people can respond locally in simple way such as planting trees and redressing the global issue. The MP also inaugurated Common Facility Centre (CHC) building at PBCA Nyengching Longleng on June 4.
In his Keynote address PBCA executive secretary, N. Tialemba Phom highlighted activities of PBCA’s Green Mission and informed that Green Mission was launched in the year 2018 and since then planted more than 20,000 saplings and 9,000 saplings were distributed to local churches in the district.
At the programme, Dharmendra Prakash, DC Longleng M. Shayung Phom also delivered speeches while project officer World Vision, India Longleng Lalremthang presented activities of World Vision India Longleng towards protection of environment.
To mark the event of PBCA-Green Mission and World Environment day 2022, a two-day tree plantation drive was initiated along the roadside from Dikhu river to Longleng town jointly taken up by the district administration, Phom Students’ Conference, PBCA and students body of Yachem, Noksosang, Yaongyimchen, Alayong, Orangkong, and Hamlikong.
Azedon School Kohima: Azedon School Kohima celebrated “World Environment Day” on June 6 where the students participated in various activities including plantation drive, making paper bags from old newspapers and painting competition (classes VIII to X) on the theme “only one earth”.
During a short programme, headmistress, L. Sentinaro Jamir spoke on the importance of conservation, school captain Rajesh Thapa delivered a speech on sustainable development, special number was presented by Aloino of class VIII while speeches on climate change were delivered by teacher N. Sharat and Avonu Khanyo.
SMCHSS: St Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School Kohima observed the World Environment Day on June 3 by organising a programme in collaboration with the Eco Club and Heritage Club of the School.
Speaking at the programme, chief guest and theme speaker, commissioner Nagaland Rovilatuo Mor apprised the students on “definition of environment” and “living sustainable in harmony with nature”.
Meanwhile, guest of honour, recipient of governor’s gold medallist in recognition of distinguished service, Sukho Movi initiated a workshop for higher secondary students on “recycling of waste materials”.
Various activities on germination of seeds, exhibition of fresh flowers/plants, drawing competition on nature’s beauty, crafting with seeds and nuts, waste management, competitions on slogan writing and video making were also conducted.
Earlier, NCC students along with in-charge Monica carried out a plantation drive around the school campus.
NESMS: Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society (NESMS) in collaboration with Community Health Centre (CHC), Tuli organised a programme on World Environment Day. The program was attended by SMO Tuli, Dr. Narola, staff of CHC, supervisor of Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society Moatsungba and volunteers.
13 NAP (IR) BN: The 13 NAP (IR) BN carried out a tree plantation drive to augment the unit’s commitment towards environment preservation and conservation.
According to a DIPR report, the plantation drive was carried out at BN headquarters by officers, men, ministerial staff, medical staff, families and children on June 4.
Meanwhile, a tree plantation drive was also carried under the initiative of commandant, 12 NAP (IR) BN, Ben Longkumer with Rajeswari Karuna school, Tzudikong and Government High school, Yajang-C.
Noklak: In view of the World Environment Day and as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Town Council Noklak in collaboration with ward union, district administration, district election office, community-based organisations, schools and other departments organised a mass plantation drive in Noklak on June 4.
According to a DIPR report, around 2000 saplings were planted in and around the town. DC Noklak, Hiazu Meru and Noklak Town Council administrator, C. Phuniang also delivered short speeches.
Chozuba: Chozuba sub-division under Phek district organised mega tree plantation in commemoration of World Environment Day and Azadi Ka Amit Mahotsav on June 4.
According to a DIPR report, students, government servants and public joined in the mega tree plantation drive supervised by additional deputy commissioner Imokokla.
Peren: As part of the 75th anniversary of Peren township, World Environment Day was celebrated on June 4 at Peren by conducting social work involving volunteers from all the wards.
According to a DIPR report, the social work included maintaining Peren road from Peren Town till Tesangki river, clearing jungles, filling up ditches, cleaning drainage and planting cherry trees. ADC Peren also informed that a mass social work involving the public of Peren town will be held on June 7, followed by district level programme where results of cleanest ward competition would be announced.
Meanwhile, Zeliang Students’ Union Nagaland (ZLSU) in collaboration with Peren District Legal Services Authority conducted a plantation drive as part of the pre-celebration programme of World Environment Day at Ngwalwa and Heningkunglwa mid-point.
Sewanu village: Sewanu village observed World Environment Day where a mass social work and plantations of Cherry trees, Ashoka and Bokal trees were carried out, sponsored by Er. Nitilo Magh Halifax, Canada.
At the programme, BDO RD Block Chunlikha Tiangro, TGSU president Wasenmo Magh and VDB association RD block Chunlikha president Tisenmo Jemu delivered speeches.
The programme was participated by village council chairman M. Robin magh, GBS, women leaders, church workers and members of Sewanu village.
