Plantations, properties destroyed at Yannu village

Tension gripped Yannu village under Tizit sub-division in Mon district on Wednesday after a group of around 500-600 people from nearby villages reportedly attacked it in connection with a boundary dispute.

Though plantations and field huts were reportedly damaged in the incident, there was no report of any casualty.

When contacted, Mon deputy commissioner (DC) Thavaseelan K confirmed Nagaland Post about the incident, which took place in wee hours – around 1.30 am. He said the issue was related to a boundary dispute, which has been there for long.

Upon hearing about the incident, he claimed that police and district administration officials rushed to the area to take stock of the situation.

Though the situation has been brought under control, the DC said additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain peace. He also said that the Section 144 CrPC may be imposed in order to ensure peace in the area.

The district administration and police also held meetings with civil society organisations and the villagers and urged them to maintain peace and tranquillity in the area, the DC added.

He also said that appropriate legal action would be initiated against those responsible after ascertaining the facts.
