Pledge Taking & Candle Light program held in Wokha

District Administration Wokha, in collaboration with Lotha Eloe Hoho, organized a Pledge Taking & Candle Light program at Wokha Town Police Point junction on November 23.

According to DIPR, the program was held on the theme “Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child” under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.

During the program, Wokha Town Baptist Church (WTBC) Youth Department also presented a street play on the girl child’s importance.

Various events and programs have been chalked out to be held in almost all the ranges and blocks covering the entire district to sensitize and make the public aware about the importance of girl child. The District Administration has involved various departments and stakeholders to conduct the programs and appealed to all concerned to carry out their assigned responsibilities for the success of the program.

DC, Wokha Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, addressing the gathering said that this was one of the first of its kind candle light program to educate, and empower the girl child and to uplift her status in her family and in society.

He also stated it is time for all to change their mindsets and opined that the practice of giving both the girl and boy child equal opportunity should start from within the family. He also stated that the District Administration, through this scheme, intends to check school dropout rates, through various programs.
