PM-KISAN released; KVKs hold awareness on ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’

Observation of PM KISAN Utsav Diwas at KVK Zunheboto

DIMAPUR: The 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN) scheme was marked across Nagaland with awareness programmes under the ongoing “Khet Bachao Abhiyan”, organised by various Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in collaboration with government agencies and stakeholders.
At KVK Dimapur, the programme was held in collaboration with ICAR Nagaland Centre and ATMA Chümoukedima at the conference hall of KVK Dimapur. Altogether 105 participants, including farmers, scientists, officials and staff members, attended the event. Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist cum Head, KVK Dimapur, highlighted the importance of soil health management for sustainable agriculture and stressed balanced nutrient application, organic enrichment and scientific farming practices.
As part of the technical session, Dr. Bendangla Imsong, SMS (Plant Breeding), KVK Dimapur, sensitised farmers on sustainable practices, soil conservation, integrated nutrient management and eco friendly approaches for long term food security. Dr. Harendra Verma, Scientist (PGPB), ICAR Nagaland Centre, delivered a talk on improved paddy cultivation, covering seed selection, nursery management, transplanting, nutrient and water management, and pest control. Farmers interacted with experts to clarify queries on crop production and government schemes. Assam lemon saplings and animal feed were distributed to promote horticulture and livestock based livelihoods.
Meanwhile, ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun (NRCM), Medziphema, organised a live webcast of the Prime Minister’s release of the 23rd instalment of PM KISAN. The programme was attended by SHG members, farmers and stakeholders. Dr. Girish Patil, director, NRCM, briefed participants on the benefits of PM KISAN and other flagship schemes aimed at improving farmers’ livelihoods and rural development.
At KVK Tseminyu, the programme was organised by KVK Kohima and the District Agriculture Office in collaboration with BJP Kisan Morcha, Kohima district. Held under the theme “Direct Support, Stronger Farmers”, the event featured participation from farmers across the district. Dr. Martina Shitiri, ACTO (Genetics & Plant Breeding), highlighted the importance of balanced fertiliser use, soil conservation and natural enhancers such as Jeevamrit and Beejamrit. She urged farmers to preserve the comparatively healthy soils of the North East for future generations. BJP Kisan Morcha representative Thomas Magh also addressed the gathering, while DAO Tseminyu, Keneisazo Punyu, chaired the programme. Presentations were made by SDAO Atilo Tep, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Imtinuksang, SMS (Soil Conservation). The programme concluded with a visit to demonstration plots showcasing conservation practices.
At KVK Zunheboto, under Nagaland University, PM KISAN Utsav Diwas was observed with farmers from various villages. Discussions highlighted government initiatives and achievements for farmers’ welfare, agricultural development schemes and technological advancements. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist and Head, encouraged farmers to avail schemes and adopt improved practices to enhance productivity and income. Participants appreciated the informative session and the opportunity to learn about farmer centric policies.
