PMKSY- WDC prog culminates in Wokha

Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana- Watershed Development Component (PMKSY-WDC), the erstwhile Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) VII, VIII, IX, X, XI under Batch IV, V and VI culmination programme was held on September 24 at Youth Centre DBHSS organised by department of Land Resource (LRD) Wokha.

According to DIPR report, five projects under PMKSY-WDC covering 44 villages and 45 micro-watersheds have been culminated.

Special guest, Deputy Commissioner (DC)Wokha, Orenthung Lotha said LRD was one of the most performing departments in the district and that it has immensely contributed towards the upliftment of the public. 

Lotha thanked the department for playing proactive role which would ultimately uplift the economy of the rural people to high level in the days to come.

He also encouraged WDC members from different villages to play a proactive role as the successful implementation of the particular schemes largely depend on them. 

District Project Officer, Wokha, Tepunol Yore, while highlighting on IWMP said the department would continue and strive hard to achieve greater heights.

During the course of five years project plan, he said many community assets were created and also plantations of various groups were achieved.

In spite of the COVID-19 lockdown, Yore said the department has done tremendous job to uplift the economy status of the district by taking up various schemes.

He said the district has witnessed economic progress of 2020 through rubber tapping adding that the district has yielded 31.54lakhs kgs from 66 villages covering 1013 household with a turnover of Rs.37.84 crores, besides huge earning from other crops like tea, arecanut, coffee and parkia, besides other horticulture crops.

Yore said that the district has currently achieved the total plantation area of 1586 hectare, under rubber plantation 428. Ha of Areca plantation, 414.Ha of coffee plantation and 29. Ha of Tea plantation and was expecting to earn a total of Rs.115.64 crores per year.

During the programme, short speeches were delivered by the Watershed Committee members from different villages. Altogether 44 villages watershed committee chairman, secretary and committee members under Wokha district attended the programme.
