Pochury bodies flay assault of minor

Pochury Students’ Union (PSU), Phokhungri Village Council (PVC) and Phokhungri Students’ Union (PSU) have condemned the alleged physical torture and abuse of an 11-year-old minor girl.

In a condemnation note, PSU president, Rongley Leyri and general secretary, Sasietho expressed outrage on the incident, where they alleged that the minor studying in sixth standard and serving as domestic helper has been assaulted regularly by Dr. Vibino Sabina from Khonoma Village, leading her to severe mental trauma from last year until her rescue by the Child Welfare Committee, Kohima on May 30, 2024.

Noting that safeguarding the safety and welfare of the children was paramount, PSU said any instance of abuse against any child was a severe breach of their rights and dignity.
The union said that such inhumane treatment of a child was unacceptable and a gross violation of human rights and child welfare laws and demanded immediate and thorough investigation by the relevant authorities.

PVC and PSC: Phokhungri Village Council (PVC) and Phokhungri Students’ Union (PSU) while condemning the despicable action of Dr. Vibino Sabina said that such inhuman behaviour has no place in a peace loving society and called upon every right thinking citizens and well-wishers to condemn such inhuman act.

Highlighting that “every child matters”, they said it was unthinkable what the victim had to endure before being rescued by the Child Welfare Committee, Kohima. The two bodies further demanded swift and appropriate action from the responsible authorities and justice be delivered to the victim.
