Pochury Hoho Kohima celebrated its 25 Silver Jubilee (1991-2016) under the theme “Envisioned Unity” at Ura Academy Hall, Kohima with Nagaland School Education minister Yitachu as the chief guest. Representatives from various tribes of the Nagas attended the celebration.
Addressing the gathering, Yitachu congratulated the Pochury Hoho Kohima for attaining 25 years of its existence and wished the celebration a grand success. He appealed to Pochury leaders and Nagas in general to rededicate and work for the common cause of the Nagas as a truthful leader and bring about social transformation in the society.
He lamented that while everyone wanted government systems, laws and even Naga political solution, the problem emerged when Naga leaders were more concerned about their own individual tribe rather than tribe fitting into Naga stream. He said that this was where “we” were going wrong.
He espoused that as a Naga leader, whether an elected member, a village council chairman, or leader any setup of organization, every leader need to know that one was a Naga leader, and “your idea, your thought should be for the welfare of the Nagas in general and march forwards to a positive trend”, he said.
To the government employees, he said the moment “you are recruited you are no more recruited as an official of tribes, but for the Nagas, you have to function as the Nagas”. With this, he urged every Naga leaders to be truthful in discharging their duties with a sense of responsibility in their assignment and let the truth be the only guiding principle so that positive thing could take place in the society.
On Naga politics, he said Peace Accord has been signed between the government of India and Naga, but questioned as to why things were not going forward for which, he emphasized that the problem was with “us”.
“Whether we remain a state under the Indian union we have to sustain ourselves, whether we constitute a sovereign independence nation we have to sustain ourselves, the position does not change.
Whether be it as a state within the India union or we become a sovereign nation we have to sustain our own. We need to bring out our tax structures, revenue structures, economic policies developments, industrialization,” he said.
He rued that if “we” expect to get salary from the government of India by staying within India union with no industrialization, no economic activities, then that would be very foolish on “our” part, he added. This is where “we” are running against time, he added.
Each and every individual has to come together and discuss the issues on how to create a space for development /industrialization friendly climate in order to have secure and provide a better future for the upcoming generation, for which the present one should take the responsibility of achieving the desire, Yitachu said.
