Pochury tribe celebrate Yemüshe festival

Yemüshe Festival, the premier cultural celebration of Pochury, was observed with fervor and enthusiasm from October 1 to 5. A DIPR report informed that the annual festival marked the joyous welcome of the new harvest, the result of a year’s hard labor, and invoked divine blessings for bountiful crops.


Minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs, G.K Kenye, graced the occasion as special guest. Dr. Neisatuo, MLA, D.C Phek, SP Phek, Commandant 5th NAP, SP Shamator, Director of Tourism, and several government officials from Kohima and Phek and Major General Vikas Lakhera, the IGAR (North), along with Commandant 38th A R and other army officers, participated in the festivities.


The festival showcased the rich cultural heritage of Pochury through captivating folk dances and melodious tunes performed by cultural troupes representing MAPO, KAPO, ARPO, PAPO, and PPO. The day’s highlights included demonstrations of traditional salt-making and pottery techniques, preserving the age-old traditions of the region. An exciting archery competition was also conducted. The program was chaired by Chonpa, the jury president of Pochury Hoho.
