Special judge POCSO, Tuensang, Longshithung Ezung on October 21 convicted Anil Thapa, s/o Kiran Thapa for “aggravated sexual assault” under section 9 POCSO, punishable under section 10 POCSO Act and sentenced the accused to an imprisonment of five years.
In a press release, additional public prosecutor, Tuensang, Kenile Kent stated that as provided under section 357 Cr.PC and Rule 9 of POCSO Rule 2020, a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh was awarded to the victim, to be paid out of the fund created under Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme 2012.
The secretary, Home (Relief and Rehabilitation) was directed to take steps to sanction and release the awarded amount within 30 days from the date of receipt of this judgement and order. It may be mentioned that the case was investigated by ASI Chilliam and the state of Nagaland was represented by special public prosecutor Kenile Kent.
