Police advisory on social media content

DIMAPUR, JUN 9 (NPN): Nagaland police have cautioned social media users and group administrators against posting, sharing or forwarding content that could be offensive, misleading, unlawful or capable of disturbing public peace and tranquillity, warning that legal action would be initiated against violators.
In an advisory issued through PRO, Police Headquarters, Nagaland, police said administrators of social media groups would also be held accountable if objectionable content circulated within their platforms.
The advisory stated that if any message, image, video or other material shared on social media was found to violate the law or incite public disorder, both the individual responsible and the concerned group administrator would be liable under relevant legal provisions.
Nagaland police further reminded group administrators of their responsibility to monitor content shared within their groups and ensure compliance with the law.
All social media users have been urged to verify information before sharing and refrain from posting or forwarding content that could promote hatred, violence, panic or public disorder.
