With the rest of the country, state and National civil forces observed Police Commemoration Day at various locations through various activities and programs.
Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21 every year in remembrance of the sacrifices of ten policemen who died in an incident of Chinese firing in 1959.
CRPF pay tributes
78 Battalion CRPF paid rich tributes to police martyrs in in observance of “Police Commemoration Day” at the Unit Headquarters in Zubza, Kohima on October 21.
A press release by 78 Bn CRPF stated that various programs were organized to mark the occasion. A cultural program was held on October 19 with a guard of honour and a wreath laying ceremony at the Jai Jawan Memorial.
After paying homage to martyrs, Surender Singh, commandant of 78 Bn CRPF briefed the men about the significance of the occasion and read out the list of police personnel in the country who had laid down their lives in service of the country from September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2018.
Debate, essay, and quiz competitions for children were also organized in which school children of Zubza village and children of the Jawans took part. Special prizes were distributed to those who secured first, second and third places and consolation prizes were distributed to all participants by Surender Singh.
Besides the commandant, senior officers and jawans also laid wreaths and paid homage to martyrs at the Jai Jawan Memorial.
BSF commemorate Hot Springs incident
The 93rd Battalion of BSF organized a mini marathon on October 21, 6 am at Chedema village in Kohima, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Hot Springs Incident in which ten policemen laid down their lives while defending the country, in Aksai Chin on October 21, 1959.
Around 125 runners, including athletes, officers, sub-ordinate officers and jawans participated in the marathon. Second-in-command, Narender Yadav flagged off the event and also distributed prizes to the winners. A cultural program with patriotic fervor was also organized in which students from Don Bosco College, Kohima; retired police personnel, and their families actively participated.
