Amaravati, May 11 (IANS): An Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) constable, identified as Nageswara Rao, was brutally murdered by unidentified men in the Gandhi Nagar area of Kakinada town late on Sunday night, with the attackers slitting his throat with a knife, police confirmed on Monday. Locals told police that a group of youth apparently under the influence of alcohol attacked a man walking on the road, and the deceased was subsequently identified as an APSP constable upon police arrival at the scene. The body was shifted to the Government General Hospital for post-mortem examination, while senior police officials visited the crime scene and collected clues. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway, with officials scanning CCTV footage from the area and working on leads to identify and arrest the assailants.
In separate incidents from the region, a person drowned and another went missing in Palnadu district after a boat overturned in a tank in Kakani village, Narsaraopet mandal, while the two men were putting fish feed into the water. The body of one victim, identified as Pitlabanda Hussain, was recovered by locals, while rescue workers continued searching for the second missing person, Argraharam Hussain. In neighbouring Telangana, three people were injured when a car rammed into an oil tanker near Veliminedu in Chiryal mandal, Nalgonda district, with the overturned tanker disrupting traffic movement on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway. All three injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, and authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
