DIMAPUR, MAY 16 (NPN): The Drug Disposal Committee for State Level Police Stations on Saturday destroyed seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances worth over Rs 36.57 crore at the Kohima dumping site, Meriema.
According to superintendent of police (Narcotics and Prohibition) and member of the Drug Disposal Committee, Poolicharla Ramanaiah, a total of 24 cases of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS), duly confiscated by the Court of the Special Judge NDPS, Kohima, were disposed of during the exercise.
The seized contraband included 8kg heroin, 31kg opium, 370kg ganja and other substances under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, including Ramadol and matter of nitrogen, collectively valued at Rs 36,57,28,000.
Ramanaiah said the disposal was carried out after the committee verified the court orders, physically inspected the seized items and completed all logistical arrangements as per prescribed procedures.
The destruction process was conducted in the presence of deputy inspector general of police (CID) and chairman of the committee T. Chumrenthung, superintendent of police (Crime) and committee member Dr. Mhalo Ezung, EAC headquarters and magistrate Kwriethozo, assistant director of Kripa Foundation Khyuchamo P. Ezung and Dobasi Keduoneilie.
