Police issue order to close check gates

A day after the state government ordered immediate removal of all police check gates, barring the inter-state check gates, the state police Friday issued an order for the procedures and effective implementation of the government notification.
According to the order, except the existing inter-state check gates all other check gates in any form, permanent/semi-permanent/temporary/mobile would be closed with immediate effect. The concerned commissioner of police/superintendent of police have been asked to submit report by 6pm May 21, 2022.
The existing inter-state check gates include Khuzama in Kohima district; Khatkati, New Field and Dellai in Dimapur district; Bhandari in Wokha district; Namza (Tizit) and Naginimora in Mon district; Kezhakeno in Phek district; Tsutapela and Watiyongpang in Mokokchung district; Maram via Peren in Peren district and Shetap (Yanglok) in Longleng.
Police also ordered that the check gates set up by other departments including by civic bodies would be immediately closed throughout the state except the inter-state check gates, which may function till May 31, 2022, and beyond that date shall function only after obtaining a specific approval of the home department.
CP Dimapur/SPs have been directed to ensure that except inter-state check gates all other check gates of other departments including municipal and town council in their respective jurisdiction were closed down with immediate effect. A report has to be submitted by 6pm on May 21, 2022.
After May 31, 2022, the inter-state check gates by other departments including municipal and town council would be allowed to operate only if they were able to obtain a specific approval of the home department, the order stated.
Further, the order stated that PHQ would set up a control room to be manned on 24×7 basis. It stated that DIGP (NPTO) would earmark a dedicated room (control room for combating illegal collection of money) for this purpose in the state police control room at Kohima.
Besides the general helpline number (112), two dedicated mobile numbers would be placed at this control room for receiving complaints regarding illegal collection of money from vehicles.
A fortnightly report of the calls received and the action taken by the control room will be made available to the home department. The persons manning the control room shall not insist on revealing the identity of the whistleblower, complainant or informant if one desires, it stated.
