The deputy chief minister said that the inauguration of the new SP office building and police barrack at Wokha marked a long-awaited moment for the district.
Patton stated that SP office had been functioning without a proper building since 1981 after being upgraded from an SDPO post created in 1973.
Patton expressed hope that the new infrastructure would improve the working conditions of police personnel and enhance their commitment towards public service. Thanking the state chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for sanctioning the project, Patton said the SP office building was funded under the State Plan in 2021, while the police barrack was constructed under the SASCI scheme. He said that similar infrastructure had been provided in newly created districts including Niuland, Tseminyu, Noklak and Chümoukedima.
Delivering a short speech, DGP Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, stressed on policing in the state. He highlighted that the number of crime cases registered in Nagaland remained comparatively low.
State police chief said that due to fewer case registrations, the state often faced constraints when it comes to funding and upgradation of various technologies and requirements.
GDP pointed out that although several new police stations have been established across the state, the number of cases reported remained low.
Therefore, he urged the public to report crimes to the police and encouraged greater cooperation so the police could function more effectively for the welfare of the people.
On police recruitment, the DGP also assured that no backdoor appointments would be entertained. He said that the list of applicants had already been finalised and that only candidates who applied and qualified in the physical tests would be considered.
He also cautioned the public against engaging in or supporting backdoor practices, stressing that the public too had a role to play in ensuring fair recruitment.
Further, DGP appealed to people to report to the police if anyone approached them with promises of illegal appointments.
