DIMAPUR/WOKHA, JUN 28 (NPN): Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland on Sunday launched the National Immunization Day (NID) for Polio, reaffirming its commitment to sustain India’s polio free status.
WOKHA: In Wokha district, Deputy Commissioner K. Mhathung Tsanglao inaugurated the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) campaign at the CMO office by administering the first two drops to a child. He emphasized that prevention remains the most effective way to protect children and urged parents to ensure every child below five years receives the vaccine. The DC said collective participation was vital to safeguard the health of future generations. The drive was conducted across the district with the aim of reaching every eligible child.
DIMAPUR: In Dimapur district, the campaign was launched by Imlijungla, EAC, Dimapur, who administered the first two drops of oral polio vaccine to a child beneficiary. A total of 480 polio booths were set up across Dimapur, Niuland and Chümoukedima districts, targeting 43,521 children between 0-5 years of age. House to house vaccination will be carried out on June 29 and 30 to cover missed out children. The brief programme was chaired by Dr. Rongsennungla, DPO UIP/RCH, with invocation by Rev. Yhunlo Thong, Chaplain, DH Chapel. Senior officials including Dr. T. Yetovi Tuccu, CMO, Dr. Kheshika, Dy. CMO, Dr. Lhishelo, DPO CD II, Dr. Benchilo, DTO, and Dr. Ayangla Saku, DPO CD I attended the launch.
PEREN: In Peren district, the NID programme was launched at District Hospital premises by Vekhohu Puro, EAC, New Peren, who administered the first polio drop. The programme was chaired by Zhochilu Venue, BPM, with keynote address by Dr. Velentina Neikha, DPO (RCH & UIP). In his remarks, Puro stressed the importance of vaccination and urged parents and health workers to act as ambassadors for awareness. He emphasized that no child should be deprived of polio immunization. Invocation was pronounced by Neingutuonuo, Nursing Sister.
MOKOKCHUNG: In Mokokchung district, the launch was held at Imlong Place with Dr. Madhavi R, Assistant Commissioner, administering the first polio drop. Dr. Tiasunep, CMO, exhorted health workers to ensure no child below five years is missed, and thanked the district administration, DPRO, Indian Red Cross Society, Rotary Club Mokokchung, village and ward councils, NGOs and allied departments for their support. The programme was chaired by Dr. Limanaro, DPO UIP/RCH, with invocation by Narosenla, CED MTBA. House to house mop up sessions will continue on June 29 and 30.
MON: In Mon district, the campaign was launched at District Hospital Mon with Kedoseno Reno, EAC, administering the first two drops of bivalent oral polio vaccine. A total of 239 booths were set up across the district, targeting 23,712 children below five years, including newborns. Forty two supervisors have been deployed for smooth implementation. Dr. Wungyong Konyak, DPO UIP & RCH, highlighted the significance of NID, stressing that although India is polio free, the risk of re emergence remains. He urged parents to ensure every child receives the vaccine, even if previously immunized. The programme was chaired by H. Wanjoi, Data Entry Operator UIP, with invocation by David Konyak, Chaplain, District Hospital Mon.
PHEK: In Phek district, the campaign was launched at District Hospital with Akole Vero, president of Phek Area Mother Association (PAMA), administering the first polio drops. Dr. Khriekuolie Liezietsu, DPO RMNCHA+N, chaired the programme and briefed on NID. A total of 205 booths were set up across the district, targeting 10,037 children. House to house visits will continue for two days. State Monitor Dr. Ruokuohielie Rutsa and a team from the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima, attended the programme. Invocation was delivered by Vesivo Chizo, Chaplain, District Hospital Phek.
TUENSANG: In Tuensang, the National Immunization Day 2026 was launched at Tower Clock Junction with ADC Tuensang, Berimong administering two drops of oral polio vaccine to an eligible child. Addressing the gathering, Berimong reminded that although India has been declared polio free, the risk of resurgence remains due to prevailing cases in neighbouring countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan. He urged parents not to give in to rumours or misconceptions about the vaccine, assuring that it is safe and effective. Dr. Y. Waulong Phom, DPO (UIP/RCH), gave a brief introduction on the Pulse Polio programme and its significance in sustaining India’s polio free status. The programme was chaired by Putusola, DCM, while dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Anong Wongtu of APY Yungkuk Baptist Lashong, Tuensang.
Dimapur24x7: Dimapur24x7 Foundation, in association with Dimapur District Hospital, successfully observed National Immunization Day 2026 (National Pulse Polio Day) on Sunday by administering polio drops to children aged 0-5 years at designated booths in Dimapur.
The immunization drive was conducted under the leadership of Dimapur24x7 chairperson, Annie Jain, at New Market and Erose Line Assam Bus Stand, where volunteers and healthcare personnel worked together to ensure that every eligible child received the life saving vaccine.
