
The Kiphire Town Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KTCCI) has strictly put into effect a ban on use on plastic/polythene bags within Kiphire town from January 1.
A press release from KTCC general secretary, Tsalichum S. Sangtam stated that this was in continuation of its resolve made during the general meeting held on December 9, 2018 at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire along with officials and members KTCCI and all business establishments, to strictly ban use or sale of plastic/polythene bags within Kiphire town as a part of its “Safe Environment and Kiphire-polythene free town” initiative.
KTCCI stated that it will impose stringent action against defaulters. Any packages used in place of plastics/polythene by business establishments should be approved by the KTCCI.
T. Litingse Sangtam, chairman KTCCI, in the meeting, spoke about the importance of the business community’s vital role for economic growth of the district, state and the whole country. He also pointed out that cordial relations with stakeholders and citizens of Kiphire, and social contributions would foster businesses and move the district towards overall development.
He also acknowledged the district administration, business establishments, all civil societies within and outside Kiphire and individuals for coordinating to facilitate the relief efforts when Kiphire faced acute shortage of essential goods during the monsoon when the district was cut off.
The cleanliness drive conducted every last Saturday of the month within the KTCCI jurisdiction, initiated in 2017-18, will also continue in 2019-20, and the cleanliness drive for January 2019 has been scheduled for January 19, 6 am to 8 am.
