Population stabilisation fortnight which commenced on July 11 under the theme “New wave, new believe; family development through complete responsibility” across Nagaland culminated on July 24.
Longleng: Longleng observed population stabilisation fortnight synchronizing with world population day, District Health Society Longleng launched population stabilization fortnight at IDSP Hall, CMO office.
During the fortnight, focussed group discussion on population fortnight was conducted in 16 villages under Longleng district. The target group were lactating mothers and pregnant women with an aim to create awareness and educate them to be and to become healthy mothers and also to enable them to clarify their doubts to improve their health.
Sixteen villages were visited to conduct Focussed Group Discussion (FGD) and two teams were divided covering four blocks under Longleng District for 12 days.
Topics on family planning, breastfeeding, birth spacing, how to use condoms and contraceptive pills and on personal hygiene were discussed during the programme. At the fortnight programme female sterilization was conducted in the district with 63 IUCD, and 20 ligations and IEC materials on different health topics were distributed to the participants.
FGD was conducted by Henmei, district community mobilizer, Ongjei ASHA Co-Ordinator, Longleng Sardar 1, Yungmei ASHA Co-Ordinator, Longleng Sardar 2, Nungai ASHA Co-Ordinator, Yongnyah block, Lidang ASHA Co-ordinator Tamlu block and district media officer, Longleng Roseline.
KIPHIRE: District Health Society (DHS) Kiphire launched population stabilization fortnight on July 11, at CMO office and culminated July 24”.
DPO (RCH-UIP) Dr Rebecca Y Sema in her address pointed family planning as a necessity and important key for a healthy and happy family which should be focus on quality and quantity.
IPC sessions on the importance of planning, counselling, IUCD insertion and femal sterilization and free distribution of condoms, mala-n, EC pills and UPT kits were provided during the programme.
Female sterilization camp was also held led by gynaecologist Dr. Yetovi and medical staff during the fortnight programme at district hospital, Kiphire and community health centre, Pungro.
Meanwhile, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was conducted in 14 villages of Kiphire district where raised questions on FP and misconceptions of having side effects through the methods were also cleared. Couples were the target audience for the FGDs. Topics on the importance of family planning, methods of family planning, importance of birth spacing, maternal health, child health and immunization, misconceptions of family planning methods.
During the team visit of IEC personnels, BEE Setsao and FWA Muchui appealed all visited village to spread the word and avil the treatment during the family health mela fortnight provided in all health units. They also spoke on the hazards of maternal mortality rate after the fifth child and further urged the participants to ideally maintain a gap of two-three years after each birth.
Medical officer Medonguno M Chasie also shared her experience of growing up in a big family and its problems. She also opined that big family also effect’s the psychology of a child immensely. Therefore, she further reiterated on the importance of family planning at present.
Altogether, 25 patients were enrolled for tubectomy service, 69 for IUCD insertion and three for PPIUDC service.
TUENSANG: District Health Society (DHS) Tuensang, Observed the World Population Forth Night (WPD) from July 11 to 24, in all the blocks under Tuensang district. During the World Population Day (WPD), activities on family planning such as focus group discussions (fgd), counselling & motivations for the eligible couples were provided. A total of 57 ligations and 30 copper-T Insertions were done and other family planning facilities like OCP & condoms were also distributed.
