Pork Butchers Union Dimapur (PBUD), which is enforcing ban on pigs from Assam and closure of pork butcher shops in Dimapur, seized 15 pigs that were being transported on Tuesday.
PBUD began closure of all the pork butcher shops in Dimapur on Monday in protest against the Assam government ban on transportation of pigs through the state of Assam
Speaking to media persons, PBUD president Shikato T Swu said that the union intercepted one pickup truck at New filed check gate while transporting 15 pigs to Kohima.
He said that out of 15 pigs, 10 were “Assam local” and five were “supply pigs” from other states. The union warned that stern action would be imposed against defaulters.
Carrying out such activities even after serving notice is discouraging, PBUD said and appealed to all responsible to extend cooperation.
PBUD vice president Hotoshe Zhimo also appealed to the state government to address the issue. He said that the imposition of ban was not only for the welfare of the pork business community but also for the public in general.
