As an activity under a month long celebration of Poshan Maah, 2021, child development project officer’s office, Kohima (Tribal) undertook a program on “Anemia Camp” on September 13, at Keyake AWC.
The program was organized in convergence with the Medical department, Sub Health Centre, Keyake, and PMMVY cell Kohima district.
In a press release from CDPO office, Kohima tribal senior supervisor Reyivolu, Sr. Supervisor, stated that resource person CDPO Kohima (T) C. James Ezung, spoke on the purposes and key focus of Poshan Maah celebration.
He emphasized on the importance of availing Anganwadi facilities like growth monitoring, to regularly monitor the health status of their children.
He also highlighted different activities and facilities provided through Anganwadi services. Also, encouraged the community participates in all the activities and makes maximum benefit of the services provided as they are the primary stakeholders of the services.
In relation to anemia he emphasized the importance of timely monitoring and timely intervention so as to take corrective measures before it’s too late. He also said that anemia is a vicious cycle which can be passed on to the girl child if the mother is anemic. He underscored the subject by saying that adolescent period offers an opportunity for the improvement of nutrition and for correcting poor nutritional practices by consuming locally available vegetables and fruits besides adopting healthy lifestyle and receiving proper medical services.
Meanwhile, resource person, Keyake Health centre ANM Kenosenu spoke on the topic “Anemia”. She spoke on what an anemia is, the signs, the symptoms and the need to receive medical help at the right time.This was followed by a time of discussion where queries relating to anaemia were answered.
District programme assistant PMMVY, Vimenu, also spoke on PMMVY. She spoke on the objectives, benefits, conditions and documents required to apply for the scheme.
Subsequently, chairman of Keyake welfare board Dr. Viatuo Rutsa spoke on behalf of the community. He expressed gratitude to the departments for conducting this program and also encouraged the community to participate in the departmental activities and avail facilities provided by the government.
Leaflets on anemia, exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, health and nutrition for pregnant and lactating, removal of social stigma associated with covid-19, SAM & MAM, PMMVY were also distributed.
The second session was on Anaemia Screening, which was performed by the Sub Health Centre Keyake team.
