Poshan Abhiyaan, a flagship initiative by the Government of India (GoI), to improve nutritional outcomes for children under 6 years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers was launched by in Tuensang and Longleng on September 6.
Launched by Prime Minister, POSHAN (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) Abhiyaan aimed to address the challenge of malnutrition in a mission-mode.
Launching the scheme at the CBLT conference hall, Tuensang, DC Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa said Tuensang district was one of the first districts in the State to have a fully functional District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW).
She encouraged the Anganwadi workers to work with sincerity and dedication and also asked them to create an awareness for healthy home-cooked food and breastfeeding for the infant child. Rutsa also added that Anganwadi workers have a big role to play in teaching the pre-primary students in their Anganwadi Centres as lower section education was the backbone of learning. The DC also took the Poshan Pledge.
During the function, T. Longlang Luckpan DPO (ICDS) Tuensang highlighted on Poshan Maah programme in his welcome speech. Short speeches were delivered by Nungsanglemba, president CKS and Dr. Imti, DPO RCH Tuensang.
Poshan Abhiyaan theme song was presented by AWWs Tuensang Town. The programme was chaired by Lakiumong CDPO (ICDS) Thonoknyu Project and vote of thanks by Antikundang CDPO (ICDS) Sangsangnyu Project.
The month long Poshan Maah will culminate on September 30. Longleng: Department of Social Welfare, ICDS Project Longleng, organized the launching programme of Poshan Maah at EBRC hall, Longleng.
District Coordinator for Poshan Abhiyaan, Longhong in his keynote address said during the celebration of Poshan Maah, it will strive for massive improvement in the nutritional and health of pregnant women, lactating mother, adolescent girls and 0-6years by creating awareness through various channels. He therefore urged all anganwadi workers to reach out to the beneficiaries. CDPO Longleng, Anuno Longho administrated the Poshan Pledge. The programme was chaired by B.C Poshan Abhiyaan, Chingyang and vote of thanks by Sr, Supervisor Shahnyu Phom. The launching program was attended by all Anganwadi workers under Longleng district.
