As part of the ongoing Poshan Pakhwada under the initiative of Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan, a “recipe contest” was organised by department of Social Welfare with convergent departments at Jakhama CDPO office on Saturday.
During the event, CDPO Zubemo Jami exhorted the participants that Nagaland was blessed with abundant local organic fruits and vegetables that are easily available and affordable. He said locally produced food were far much superior both in terms of quality and nutrition.
Jami said that the event was organised with an aim to revive local recipes that were natural, organic and time tested: recipes that were passed down several generations.
He further added that to promote healthy nutrition, the stable local recipes needs to be studied and explored after which supplementary nutrition, if needed, would be adopted. Jami also stressed that healthy lifestyle and healthy nutrition were the basis of a healthy society.
Members of local SHGs under NSRLM, AWWs and others took part in the contest and the recipes were later shared among the participants.
Kohima district poshan co-ordinator, Sogile Tep spoke on “nutrition and balanced diet in pregnant women and children” while NSRLM co-ordinator, Sokhrienuo Rupre-o spoke on “healthy food from locally availabe vegetables and fruits” as resource persons.
In the contest, Anganwadi worker, Kipfuzha and SHG, Kevi VLO emerged as first and second respectively.
