KOHIMA, MAY 12 (NPN): The third edition of the Potato Festival 2026, themed “Agri Trade Potential,” will be held on May 15 at Jakhama Village Local Ground, bringing together farmers, entrepreneurs, government agencies and agricultural experts to promote sustainable and profitable farming practices in Nagaland.
Addressing media persons, co convenor Kevithüzo Tase said the festival was not just a celebration but an opportunity to unlock the state’s agricultural potential.
He noted that while Nagaland had fertile land, hardworking farmers and a suitable climate, challenges such as market access, technical knowledge, logistics and outdated practices continued to hinder productivity. “The theme ‘Agri Trade Potential’ seeks to connect farmers with markets, introduce better knowledge and technology, and create genuine business opportunities in agriculture,” he stated.
Event coordinator Vikehiezo Kulnu informed that this year’s edition will feature seminars, demonstrations and workshops on agriculture, entrepreneurship and value added products.
Highlights include a demonstration on biofertiliser use by BioLab Medziphema, sessions by YouthNet on accessing government schemes, banana chip production by ATMA, a workshop on coffee plantation by the Land Resources Department, and an Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP) by IDAN.
Kulnu said 64 stalls have been registered, showcasing organic produce, food, handicrafts and handloom products. Around 20,000 kilograms of potatoes are expected to be displayed, with an estimated footfall of 5,000 to 7,000 visitors. Indigenous games with prizes will also be organised.
Another coordinator, Dr. Teputo Richa, expressed optimism over this year’s harvest, noting that good rainfall had already resulted in promising yields compared to last year’s poor harvest due to dry weather.
He invited people from across the state to attend the festival, recalling that the inaugural edition had generated business worth around Rs. 15 lakh.
