Power department Kohima electrical division has informed that it would be carrying out extensive disconnection drive against defaulting consumers who have not paid electricity bills including government offices, SPM Villages, and disconnection of illegal/unauthorized connections from February 2025.
In a press release, executive engineer electrical division Kohima has, therefore, requested all category of consumers (urban and rural areas) to clear their electricity bills at the earliest in order to avoid inconvenience.
Further, the department has warned the public not to resort to illegal/unauthorized usage of electricity in the form of hooking, tampering of Energy Meter, By-passing of Energy meter etc. as it was a serious offence and would invite penalty in the form of fine/imprisonment or both as per Indian Electricity Act, 2003.
It also requested consumers to read the information printed at the back of the Electricity Bill and to note that “Non-receipt of bill does not mitigate liability for payment of charges for energy consumed.”
In case of any discrepancies and any other grievances in the bill, consumers have been requested to visit the offices of their respective SDO(E) No. I, II, III for clarification, correction, and rectification.
