POWERGRID hands over 25 KWp solar plant in Meghalaya

DIMAPUR, JUN 22 (NPN): Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has handed over a 25 KWp off-grid rooftop solar power plant at Mawlyndep village in Ri Bhoi district, Meghalaya, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The solar plant, inaugurated on June 18, was established under the project titled “Supply, Installation and Commissioning of 25 KWp Solar Plant for Community Cluster-Based Intervention in Emerging Aquaculture Production and Post-Harvest Management.” The project was implemented at a cost of Rs 18.49 lakh.
The initiative is aimed at promoting sustainable energy solutions while supporting aquaculture-based livelihood activities in the region through reliable and environmentally friendly power supply.
The handover programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi district Dr. Abhishek Saini, IAS; Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director of DRDA Ri Bhoi Shri R. Brahma, MCS; Superintendent of Fisheries Smti M. Khongjliw; Deputy General Manager (HR), POWERGRID NERTS, Shri Tathagat; along with officials from the DRDA, Fisheries Department, community representatives and POWERGRID.
According to POWERGRID, the solar power system will provide uninterrupted and clean energy for community-based aquaculture activities, helping improve productivity, reduce dependence on conventional energy sources and contribute to sustainable rural development.
The project forms part of POWERGRID’s ongoing CSR efforts to promote renewable energy, strengthen rural infrastructure and enhance the socio-economic well-being of local communities through targeted development initiatives.
