PPA for 20 MW solar power project at Tizit

DIMAPUR, AUG 21 (NPN): Taking another step towards expanding its renewable energy capacity, the Department of Power, Nagaland, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with M/s Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd. for developing a 20-MW solar power plant at Tizit in Mon district.
According to DIPR, the agreement was signed at the Nagaland civil secretariat conference hall in the presence of senior officials from the power, finance, and law and justice departments, along with company representatives.
Speaking at the programme, chief engineer (T&G), Er. Nitovi A. Wotsa, said Nagaland’s present peak power demand stood at 203 MW and was projected to rise to 482 MW by 2034-35. He said the state was planning to expand generation capacity through its own resources while encouraging private-sector participation.
The principal secretary, power, stressed the need to rapidly augment generation capacity, noting that solar projects offered shorter implementation periods and had no mechanical moving parts compared to hydro, wind and thermal power systems.
He said Nagaland’s sub-tropical location provided good solar availability, making solar generation suitable for the state. He called for early completion of the project, saying it would strengthen renewable energy capacity and help Nagaland meet its renewable consumption obligations.
The principal secretary also urged the developer to create employment opportunities for locals during both construction and operation.
Company directors Bhakti Dave, Hardik Dave and Nayaan Ratandhayara presented the project’s implementation plan.
The plant, proposed at Lapa Lampong village in Tizit, would be Nagaland’s fourth private-sector power generation initiative.
