Following April 17 incident along the Longleng-Tuensang road (NH 702B) involving the assault of Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) president and his driver, a joint consultative and prayer fellowship was held at Kuthur village on Thursday to foster reconciliation.
The meeting, initiated by the Yimkhiung Baptist Church Tuensang Town (YBCTT) and Phom Baptist Church Tuensang Town (PBCTT), brought together key leaders from the Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC) and the YTC to address the matter in a “Christian spirit.”
During the deliberations, both parties shared factual accounts of the incident and mutually acknowledged that the escalation was a result of misunderstandings.
In a significant gesture of goodwill, both tribes declared unconditional forgiveness for one another.
Recognizing the importance of long-term communal harmony, the PPC and YTC pledged to refrain from further provocative actions and committed to resolving any future disputes through dialogue and peaceful consultation.
The two councils jointly appealed to the members of both communities to restore friendly relations. Further, they urged all individuals and organizations to cease commenting on social media regarding the incident to prevent further misinformation.
The consultative meet was attended by Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) president A. Chingmak Chang, church leaders, Kuthur village Gaon Buras, and various community elders. The programme concluded with a special prayer for healing and unity led by YBCTT pastor K. Yimto, following an invocation by PBCTT pastor Yongkai Phom.
