PPPT on vector-borne diseases held in Dimapur

A Public Private Practitioner Training (PPPT) on the National Vector Borne Diseases Programme (NVBDCP) was held at the Chief Medical Officer’s Conference Hall, Dimapur, on April 18, to strengthen disease diagnosis, reporting and outbreak response among healthcare practitioners.
The programme was chaired by Joint Director, Dr. Tinurenla Anichari, who urged health workers from both public and private facilities to take detailed case and travel histories, correct addresses and contact numbers, noting that most malaria cases in the district were imported.
Earlier, Joint Director & State Programme Officer, NVBDCP, Dr. Imnapokim, in his welcome address, informed that six vector-borne diseases—malaria, dengue, chikungunya, Japanese encephalitis, kala-azar and lymphatic filariasis—are notifiable under NVBDCP, and stressed that even private hospitals must report detected cases to the state for timely intervention.
Delivering the keynote address, Chief Medical Officer Dimapur, Dr. T. Yetovi Tuccu, reiterated the importance of quality reporting from health facilities, not only for quick intervention but also for resource allocation and policy-making. He urged all facilities to adhere to government guidelines aligned with national goals.
Technical sessions covered key public health priorities. Dr. N.I. Singh, additional director, Regional Office for H&FW, GoI, Imphal, led a virtual session on diagnosis and treatment. Kikolul Khieya, UVBDS Dimapur, presented on local vector types, control measures and use of larvivorous fish, urging public cooperation during focal spraying and fogging. Dr. Pewezo Khalo, Senior Specialist Microbiologist, DH Dimapur, spoke on testing facilities for Japanese encephalitis, dengue and chikungunya. Dr. Nilam Somalkar, Regional Director, Bhubaneshwar, conducted a virtual session on early outbreak detection and malaria response.
Imsubenla, PH & Training Consultant, presented on IHIP reporting, while Aomar Imchen, Data Manager, IDSP Dimapur, explained reporting procedures on the IHIP IDSP portal.
The training concluded with a vote of thanks by Heanglih T. Konyak, DVBDC Dimapur. The PPPT aimed to equip private practitioners with updated protocols on vector-borne diseases, integrated health information reporting and outbreak management, thereby strengthening coordination between public and private healthcare sectors in the region.
