DIMAPUR: A preparatory meeting for the forthcoming 80th Independence Day celebrations was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Dimapur, on July 27 under the chairmanship of Wiridin, Sub Divisional Officer (Civil), Dimapur.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting reviewed the proposed programme for the Independence Day celebration to be held on August 15, 2026, and discussed the distribution of responsibilities among various government departments and agencies to ensure smooth conduct of the event.
Responsibilities for ceremonial and logistical arrangements were assigned to the concerned departments. Coordination among administrative officers, line departments and stakeholders was emphasised to facilitate effective planning and execution. The SDO (Civil) urged all departments to carry out their responsibilities efficiently and maintain close coordination to ensure that the 80th Independence Day celebrations are conducted in a befitting manner.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Peren, Hiazu Meru, chaired a coordination meeting at the DC’s Conference Hall, Peren, on July 27 to discuss preparations for the forthcoming Independence Day Celebration 2026.
Addressing the meeting, the DC said Independence Day is one of the most significant national occasions and urged all government departments and officials to accord it the highest priority. He emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts among departments and institutions to ensure the successful conduct of the celebration, calling upon all concerned to extend full cooperation and carry out their responsibilities with sincerity and commitment.
The meeting deliberated on various arrangements, including the overall programme, parade, cultural presentations, security, medical assistance, public address system, sanitation and other logistical requirements. Work distribution among departments and institutions was also discussed, with responsibilities assigned to ensure smooth conduct of the celebration.
It was resolved to organise a district wide mass social work on August 7, 2026, in preparation for Independence Day. Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), was entrusted as the overall in charge, while the EAC (Sadar) was assigned as liaison officer for the programme.
DC stressed the need for close coordination among all stakeholders to ensure the celebration is conducted in a befitting and disciplined manner. He directed all government departments to participate actively, stating that attendance and participation in the National Day celebration are compulsory. He also requested all departments to set up exhibition stalls during the celebration, extending the initiative to all departments instead of limiting it to Agriculture & Allied and Forest Departments, as had been the practice in previous years.
