Prime Suspect in Jiribam Killings Nabbed by NIA and Assam Police

In a major development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), working in tandem with Assam Police, has arrested a key suspect linked to the Jiribam killings case from Cachar district, Assam.

The accused, Thanglienlal Hmar, also known as Boya, hails from Moinathol village in Dilkush Ghat. Authorities say he was actively involved in both orchestrating and carrying out the brutal crime.

The Jiribam case, which shocked the region, centers on the abduction and murder of three women and three children from Manipur. The victims were taken from a relief camp in Borobekra on November 11, 2024, and their bodies were recovered from the Barak River near the Manipur–Assam border on November 18.

After the incident, the NIA assumed control of the investigation from local police and has been pursuing multiple leads. Boya’s arrest is considered a significant breakthrough in the probe.

Earlier this week, the Manipur High Court ordered the NIA to file a detailed report and chargesheet within a month. The directive came from a division bench led by Chief Justice K. Somashekar and Justice Ahanthem Bimol Singh, during a hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Uripok Apunba Lup, a civil society group demanding justice for the victims.

The case remains under close scrutiny as calls for accountability and judicial action continue to grow.
