Prime suspect nabbed in Kohima malkhana drug theft

In a significant breakthrough, Kohima Police arrested a key suspect in connection with a daring drug evidence heist from the Malkhana (evidence storage room) of the Prosecution Inspector’s (PI) Court in Kohima.
The incident, which took place on the intervening night of March 21 and 22, involved the theft of a substantial quantity of narcotics kept as crucial court evidence. In a press note, PRO Kohima police said that the unidentified miscreants had forcibly entered the court’s secured Malkhana between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. and escaped with 45 soap cases containing suspected heroin, weighing a staggering 675 grams, which was kept as crucial court evidence.
PRO said the audacious theft of court property prompted an immediate high-priority investigation. Over nearly three months, PRO said the officers worked tirelessly to trace those responsible for breaching a critical component of the justice system.
The investigation led to a major breakthrough on June 13, when police arrested the prime suspect– Kevichutuo Cüze (28) following a coordinated operation led by SDPO (North) Kohima, Sheta Lohe.
PRO said that Cüze has since been remanded to judicial custody even as the investigation continues in full swing. Police said efforts are underway to recover the stolen heroin and identify other accomplices and strengthen the case for a watertight prosecution.
According to PRO, the arrest marks a significant development in a case that struck at the integrity of the judicial process. PRO said the police team pursued every lead relentlessly, and while the investigation remains active, efforts were underway to recover the stolen narcotics and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
