Private hospitals suspend AB-PMJAY/CMHIS services

Private Empanelled Health Care Providers (EHCP) Wednesday announced the suspension of AB-PMJAY and CMHIS services across Nagaland effective April 17, 2025.

In a press release, Nagaland Private Doctors Association (NPDA) president Dr. Lima Imchen and general secretary Dr. Mhasiseno T. Belho, stated that over the past several months, they had persevered through immense challenges to sustain healthcare schemes for the people of the state.

Despite repeated setbacks and escalating operational pressures, NPDA said they continued to deliver services in good faith. However, the association said due to prolonged non-payment of claims, they have now reached an unsustainable point, both financially and operationally.

Stating that the crisis has been unfolding for over six months, NPDA said as early as February, they were already facing a scenario where suspending services was being seriously considered.

Even then, NPDA said EHCP chose to carry on, driven by their commitment to public health and service. “Unfortunately, in spite of multiple appeals and meetings with the concerned authorities, there has been no resolution, and our dues remain unpaid,” NPDA said.

Pointing out that healthcare was a complex ecosystem that relied on timely and consistent funding, the association said drug suppliers must be paid to ensure the availability of essential medicines. It said doctors, nurses, and hospital staff depend on regular salaries. NPDA said EMIs for life-saving medical equipment must be honoured, adding daily operational expenses essential to running a healthcare facility must be met.

Therefore, NPDA said that continuing AB-PMJAY/CMHIS services without the necessary financial support was not only untenable but would also compromise the very existence of their healthcare units.

Expressing regret for the inconvenience that could be caused to the public, the NPDS however affirmed that their commitment to the health and well-being of the people remained steadfast. The association expressed hope that an immediate and constructive resolution would allow them to resume services without further delay.
