Programmes & activities organised for students

Various educational institutions organised programmes and workshop for the students and faculty as part of their co-curricular activity.

Tetso college: A workshop on men’s mental health jointly organized by Lipiye Centre for mental well-being in collaboration with Prodigals’ Home and Department of Psychology, Tetso College was held at Lorin Hall, Tetso College on July 6 with DIGP (CID) IPS Dr. K.P.A Ilyas as the guest of honour.


Addressing the programme, Dr. Ilyas expressed his experience in Nagaland, describing Naga society as dignified. He mentioned that men’s mental health is actually a problem and men are likely facing crisis due to large-scale industry which should be acknowledged and investigate. Looking at the performance of boys, he observed that they are not doing well and the issue has become so prevalent that some government are considering admitting boys one year after girls where girls would start at 5 and boys at 6 years of age, in an afford to help them performed better.


Dr. Ilyas emphasized that it takes a village to bring up a child and parents alone are not sufficient. He said that men are a social animal and they derived their ability and efficiency from group around them. He also noted that the way Nagas view children is positively different from others. Children’s receive due attention, fostering positive self esteem, which is crucial for shaping a child’s mind.


Earlier the programme was chaired by Asst. Professor Psychology Dept. Tetso College, Sohak Khamrang. Keynote address was delivered by Nagaland State Commission for woman (NSCW) Chairperson, W Nginyeih Konyak. A role play was performed by 5th Semester Psychology Honours Student. Short Speeches was given by State Mental Health Institute Kohima, Psychiatrist Dr. Ayangla Longchar and Founder, Lapiye Centre for Mental Well-being counseling Psychologist, Lovitoli Awomi.

A special Song was presented by Ikishe, Church Band. Thilixu Village Baptist Church Youth Pastor, Boqhito Chishi shared about his experience. Vote of thanks was announced by Dept. of Psychology, Tetso College HoD Dr. Nouzhienino Peseyie. The programme concluded with a benediction by Ikishe Village Baptist Church Youth Pastor, Inahoto Chophy. (Staff Reporter)


UCTE: Unity College of Teacher Education (UCTE), Dimapur organised an activity under the theme “Celebrating Differences” on July 6. In a press release UCTE stated that the program aimed to raise awareness and promote inclusivity of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in educational institutions and society and emphasized that the program’s resource person was Child Welfare Committee, Dimapur, Lozua Kape.


UCTE highlighted that Special guests at the programme were children from Prodigals’ Home, Dimapur who presented special songs and shared their testimonies. Aosenla Jamir spoke on behalf of Prodigals’ Home.


UCTE mentioned that Merenlemla Longkumer (3rd Semester) presented a song, followed by a brief message from Principal Dr. Akala Longkumer. SCHE: Salesian College of Higher Education held its annual Freshers Day celebration on Saturday. The event commenced with an invocation by Sr. Mercy Philip, Vice Principal, followed by a welcome song performed by the 3rd-semester students. In his welcome speech, Principal Fr. Dr. Paul Punii, principal, extended a warm reception to the freshers and introduced the new faculty members, highlighting the addition of Fr.Dr. Elow Samuel as the new director.


The ceremony included the Investiture Ceremony for the student council members for the year 2024-2025. Principal Dr. Punii, exhorted the council members to lead with integrity and to foster cooperation among the student body. He also emphasized the importance of positive leadership supported by spiritual strength, encouraging the new student council to serve the institution with humility
