Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB) has declared October as the “Month of the girl child” initiating various activities in Kohima and other districts through the district level centre for women (MSK), 181-Women Helpline and Sakhi-One Stop Centres (OSC) on the objectives of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP).
A press release from State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW) stated that, a programme was organised at Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home (KODH) by SRCW, 181-Women Helpline and MSK team on October 15. Painting competition on the theme, “little girls with dreams become women with vision” was carried out. Students from classes A-10 participated and prizes were distributed as well.
Noel Khate of Women Helpline delivered a short talk on mental well-being and its importance. Warden of KODH, pronounced the welcome note. Chairperson of the programme, Vitsino Iralu of Women Helpline gave a brief introduction of BBBP and shared the significance of the girl child day. MSK, women welfare officer, Neipechaü Mepfhuo gave the vote of thanks.
Old Riphyim village: Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) in collaboration with Sakhi-One Stop Centre and Wokha District Legal Services Authority organized an awareness programme on BBBP, women centric schemes and women helpline 181 on October 15 at Old Riphyim village. According to DIPR report, women welfare officer, Dr. Wonchibeni E. Enny spoke on introduction of MSK and BBBP and about the activities of MSK and BBBP.
Advocate Thungbeni Kikon, case worker (OSC) highlighted about the scope and functions of OSC Wokha and the current situation affected by violence. Advocate, Shanchobeni P. Lotha project assistant, WDLSA spoke on POCSO Act and domestic violence Act. District coordinator Chichanthung L Ezung (MSK-DLCW) highlighted about the various existing government centric schemes and the importance of Women Helpline 181.Chairman Old Riphyim village also delivered short speech. Programme was chaired by district coordinator (MSK) Merithung Lotha and vote of thanks was delivered by district coordinator Chichanthung L Ezung.
