Claiming that people living along the Doldoli Reserved Forest areas were living in a peaceful atmosphere, the United Naga Tribes Association on Border Areas (UNTABA) has termed as “immature” the prohibitory order, issued by the deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, along the whole stretch of the Doldoli Reserved Forest area on the Nagaland side of the Nagaland-Assam border.
In a press release, UNTABA chairman Hukavi T Yeputhomi and general secretary Imsumongba Pongen said it would have been better if the DC Dimapur could on the other hand ‘clearly define the inter-state boundary’ between the two states.
“Without having no iota of the crux on the border issue, randomly issuing such an order, would be unwise on the part of the Deputy Commissioner to unnecessarily own up the responsibility on any nature of untoward incident or consequences,” the signatories said.
Meanwhile, UNTABA has appealed to all the communities living in and around the border areas to maintain peaceful co-existence as before. It also appealed to different sectoral border peace committees around the border areas to maintain peaceful atmosphere keeping in view of the ongoing electioneering process in Assam.
