Nagaland: Project ‘School Shine’ for vocational education

AISECT, a leading social enterprise in India, in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland, has launched the “School Shine” project, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing vocational education in the state.


The project aligns with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and the National Education Policy 2020, focusing on practical skills development for vocational students. A key objective was to manufacture 1,400 (9 Watt) LED bulbs, fostering a startup environment for young innovators.


The “School Shine” project was officially launched at PM Shri Government High School (GHS) Thahekhu on September 9, attended by various dignitaries and stakeholders committed to advancing education in the region.


State Coordinator for the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Skill India Nagaland, Parvin Yadav, highlighted the role of schools as hubs for practical education, where students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also develop essential skills.
He emphasized that initiatives like “School Shine” can help schools generate capital for self-sustainability, enhancing the overall educational ecosystem in Nagaland.


Zonal Head of AISECT Ltd Indranil Mukherjee, elaborated on the core objectives of “School Shine.” He stressed the importance of nurturing young entrepreneurs by equipping them with skills and mindsets necessary for success in a competitive economy.


Mukherjee said that the project aims to empower students and provide schools with a means to generate income, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation. Future initiatives may focus on solar energy and environmentally friendly projects.


The “School Shine” project will cover 43 schools across Nagaland under Samagra Shiksha, adopting a phased approach to develop diverse skill sets among participating students in phase wise.


Vice president of Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) Michael Yanthan, praised the initiative, highlighting the significant impact of skill education on students’ futures. ADC of Samagra Shiksha Dimapur, along with the District Education Officer of Dimapur and UBRC Kuda, also participated, commending the program’s focus on skill development for young minds.


Assistant Head Mistress of GHS Thahekhu N. Kahoni Chishi, welcomed the gatherings, underscoring the significance of practical learning in modern education and its potential benefits for students’ careers.
