Properties worth around Rs. 30 lakh was destroyed in an inferno that broke out at L. Legise Sector 4, Kevijau colony, Dimapur on Wednesday.
According to fire personnel, the fire that broke out at around 12:40 p.m. completely gutted three thatched houses leaving five of the families homeless. No casualty was reported, since none of the family members was present during the incident, duty commander of fire brigade, Cita Chakhesang said. Two filled LPG cylinder also exploded while a nearby building was partially burnt. However, timely intervention by volunteers from nearby areas and fire personnel prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining areas.
It took at least one and half hour for three fire engines to completely douse off the fire. The cause of the fire was suspected to be due to short circuit. One of the residents told this reporter that, since the road leading to the colony was too narrow, fire personnel had tough time in containing the fire.
