One-day training awareness and sensitization programme on “protection of plant varieties and farmers right” was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mon, (Aboi) on March 4 at KVK conference hall, Aboi.
The training was sponsored by Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Authority, New Delhi and attended by 100 practicing farmers from different village level institutions.
Speaking as the chief guest, SDO (Civil), Angjangyang Mon, Chubatemjen urged the farmers to conserve and protect their own right in collaboration with the KVK for registering the locally available land races that have been cultivated since time immemorial. He also called upon the farmers to understand and implement the PPV&FR Act, 2001.
Programme co-ordinator also highlighted on the importance and usage of PPV&FRA and passport data sheet filed to the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi.
The programme was chaired by programme coordinator, KVK Mon, invocation was said church secretary, Ngangching Baptist church, Khangpa Konya, welcome address was delivered by SMS (Soil conservation), Imtinuksung and vote of thanks was delivered by computer programmer, Kevi Medom.
During the technical session, SMS (Vety. & A.H), Dr. Paihem Michui delivered a lecture on “types of intellectual property rights”, SMS (Plant Breeding), Dr. M.S. Sachan on “protection of plant varieties & farmers rights” while “plant diversity in the hills of NE India” was presented by SMS (Plant Protection), Martha Chakruno.
A healthy interactive session was held with the farmers wherein their queries were answered by the resource persons.
