
Hundreds of citizens staged protest at Tuensang town against the alleged “tyrannical attitude” of SP Tuensang Amit Nigam and demanded his removal within 24 hours from Tuensang district.
The protestors marched from clock tower till DC’s office and submitted the ultimatum through the deputy commissioner (DC) Tuensang.
Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU), which served ultimatum on the DGP Nagaland, alleged that SP Tuensang on September 2 physically assaulted one of his constables “using tribal identity and later let the victim repair the accidental damages.”
After the ultimatum was served, DIG (Range) Mokokchung was tasked to hold consultation with civil society organisations at Tuensang. According to official sources, DIG (R) Mokokchung rushed to Tuensang and met the aggrieved parties at DC’s conference hall Saturday evening.
Official sources said that the meeting was inconclusive and expected to continue on September 5.
Several allegations against SP Tuensang was also pointed out in the letter to the DGP about his functioning.
Further, CCSU president, C Pongsu informed Nagaland Post that the meeting with DIG (R) was held for about two hours. Following the assurance from the government, he said the protest was withdrawn.
Meanwhile, DC Tuensang had also forwarded an ultimatum by CCSU to Commissioner Nagaland demanding immediate transfer of the SP within 24 hours.
DC said that the matter was taken up by the district administration with the Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS) and urged that the issue may also be taken up at an appropriate level so as to avoid any untoward incident and possible flare up of law and order situation in the district.
