PSC commends rescue operations, calls for AHoDs’ immediate return

DIMAPUR, JUL 31 (NPN): Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) has lauded the coordinated efforts of the Longleng district administration, security forces, civil society organisations and volunteers in responding to the recent monsoon disaster, while urging all heads of departments (HoDs) still outside the district to return immediately and resume essential public services.
In a press release issued through its media cell, the PSC said continuous heavy rainfall triggered landslides, floods and mudslides that left Longleng district cut off for more than a week, damaging roads, houses, agricultural fields and telecommunication infrastructure and forcing several families to relocate.
The conference commended the district administration, District Disaster Management Authority DDMA, police, the 12 IR Battalion, PWD, NSF, civil society organisations, church leaders and volunteers for working tirelessly to restore connectivity and provide emergency assistance despite difficult conditions.
PSC also acknowledged the efforts of advisor for airways and railways A. Pongshi Phom, MLA, Tamlu MLA Bangtick Phom and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) in facilitating Indian Air Force helicopter sorties, which evacuated more than 300 stranded students from Longleng to Dimapur and transported emergency medical supplies, essential commodities and relief materials to affected areas, including Buranamsang village and Tamlu. Further, the conference appreciated A. Pongshi Phom for sponsoring half the transportation cost for more than 100 stranded students travelling by Sumo taxis, describing the gesture as significant relief for students and their families.
According to PSC, restoration efforts have reopened about 40-50% of damaged roads, while nearly 90% of telecommunication services have been restored. It appealed to the public to continue cooperating with agencies engaged in restoration work, noting that heavy vehicles are still unable to access several affected areas.
The conference urged the state government, district administration and NHIDCL to continue prioritising road restoration, long-term maintenance and relief for affected families.
It also called upon all heads of departments who were still outside Longleng district to report to their respective places of posting at the earliest to ensure the timely delivery of essential public services.
