Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) Thursday said a joint inspection of National Highway-702 (NH-702) from Changtongya to Longleng conducted on July 24, 2025, found “multiple road hazards and infrastructural deficiencies.”
PSC through its media cell said the join inspection team included SDO (C) Changtongya Nukshimatong, (accompanied by Dobashis), SDO (C) Longleng Meyazungba Jamir, representatives from Langpangkong Tzukong Mungdang, Langpangkong Range Road Coordination Committee, Phom Peoples’ Council, Phomla Hoichem, PSC and officials from NHIDCL and NSC.
During inspection of Changtongya-Dikhu stretch of NH-702 (Chainage 0+400 to 6+507), PSC said the team found multiple landslide-prone areas resulting in blocked drainage and unsafe conditions.
The team also observed landslide site at 1+600, besides several culverts, which were either blocked or found to be poorly constructed using Hume pipes.
PSC also said issues with retaining walls and drainage structures were found and recommended immediate attention for the site at 1+900–1+020.
It said a section of road at 4+900 showed signs of sinking, aggravated by poor drainage and ongoing landslide activity.
From Dikhu-Alayung village stretch (Chainage 8+403 to 17+400), PSC said persistent drainage blockages caused by landslides were found at multiple points. It said overflowing water on the road surface was reported at 8+403 and blocked culverts were identified at 9+675, 12+698, and 17+400.
Following the inspection, the student body said NHIDCL and NSC officials assured to address all blockages and immediate concerns within two weeks. The agencies also assured to carry out regular joint inspections to ensure the quality and pace of work.
They further assured that any damaged road surfacing (DBM) would be restored and blacktopped after the monsoon season.
PSC said the inspection team emphasized the importance of prompt and sustained action to mitigate the risks and ensure the long-term usability of NH702, which remains a vital lifeline for both the people of Longleng and Changtongya.
