PSC serves 30-day ultimatum on govt

Phom Student’s Conference (PSC) has served a 30-day ultimatum on the state government to post required number of teachers in the schools under Longleng district.
In a press release, PSC president Hongkham D. Ngongyen and general secretary Lungchem Phom cautioned that failure to receive any positive response from the government within the stipulated date, the PSC would be “compelled to opt for any sort of steps to secure the rights of the deprived students of the district.” Asserting that PSC and several other stakeholders of the district have approached successive governments to address the problem of lack of teachers, the signatories, however, said the response of the government “has been clearly shown by the nil progress of the schools” particularly in the HSLC examination results.
PSC lamented poor performance of the government high schools successively in each academic year in HSLC results in Longleng district, saying the responsibility for poor state of affairs lay with the state government and the school education department.
Further, the conference accused the state government of betraying and depriving hundreds and thousands of students with the basic necessity amongst which failure to provide required number of teachers was the most prominent one.
Meanwhile, PSC has put forth the present position of schools. It said according to the staffing pattern, most of the government high schools of the districts fall short of secondary subject teachers.
Apart from others, it furnished deficit of teachers of core subjects (see table).
