Peletkie Students’ Union (PSU), observed its 50th years of progress, Golden Jubilee on December 14 at Peletkie village under Peren district under the theme, “Progress in Unity” with State Information Commissioner Nagaland, G. H. Ramlia as the special guest.
Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebration, Ramlia, who is also the founder of PSU, opined that PSU was founded due to various reasons. He stated that PSU was formed in 1968 to instill peace and tranquility because 50 to 60 years before, there had chaos and fights among the clans of the village. He recalled that PSU was founded by a handful of people during a time when education was not given due importance by villagers. “To educate the villagers on cleanliness and hygienic living, students in those days formed the PSU so as to encourage villagers to live clean and healthy”, he added. He maintained that PSU was formed with one woman in its first team to provide a platform to women during a time when womenfolk were not given as much responsibility as menfolk. He went on to say that it was formed to eradicate a negative mindset of the people and to replace it with unity.
Encouraging the gathering, Ramlia said that to be successful, there is no substitute for a sincere heart, dedication and courage. He encouraged the students to not be distracted by anything when facing competitive exams but set a target with dedication to achieve goals. He urged them to be able to receive criticism from all angles with patience so as to be successful persons in the future.
Inswabe, who was the second PSU president, in his short speech, expressed gratitude to God for His manifold blessings and enabling the most of the pioneers of PSU to celebrate its 50th year in sound health and mind. He appealed to the students to fight for an education and compete with others, with sincerity and truthfulness. He asked the students to earn the trust of the villagers, without which he said that the qualification they acquire will be of no value.
Lekie Mtei Nko (LMN) chairman, Hiawretlang Kenn, in his brief address mentioned that the citizens of Peletkie had been blessed with 50 years of existence of the union. He said that God had accepted the valuable contribution of the pioneers and prayed that God would rain down blessings on the people of Peletkie.
PSU president, Bamsina giving a brief history of PSU, said that the growth of PSU was there for all to see because of the tireless efforts rendered by the pioneers of PSU. He also remembered and honoured the contributions of some pioneers who were no more.
