DIMAPUR: Pfutsero Town Business Association (PTBA) has expressed serious concern over the high electricity tariff applicable to commercial establishments, stating that it has placed an additional financial burden on the business community already facing rising operating costs.
In a press release, PTBA president, Vekusu Chuzho and general secretary, Truvi Rhi urged the Department of Power to review the existing commercial tariff and introduce a more business friendly structure. It stressed that electricity is an essential input for almost every business and called for relief measures and subsidy mechanisms to ensure small traders and entrepreneurs were not adversely affected.
The Association further highlighted the prolonged inconvenience faced by the public due to recurring failure and unreliability of the 33 KV power supply through the Meluri line.
Frequent interruptions, it said, have disrupted business operations, increased costs and caused hardship to consumers for decades.
PTBA therefore urged the Department of Power to fast track the completion and commissioning of the 132 KV Sub Station at Rikizu, Pfutsero, by November 2026 to ensure reliable and uninterrupted supply.
It maintained that the project would significantly strengthen the electricity network of Pfutsero and surrounding areas, providing a foundation for sustainable commercial and economic growth.
Appealing for urgent government attention, PTBA emphasised that reliable electricity and affordable tariffs must be treated as top priorities, recognising power as a critical requirement for local economic development, employment generation and business sustainability.
