Public notice on abandoned newborn in Chümoukedima

DIMAPUR: District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Chümoukedima, has issued a notice informing that an abandoned male newborn, approximately three days old, was found at the 5th Mile Model Village Local Ground on June 24, 2026. The child was subsequently produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Chümoukedima, under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
District Child Protection Officer, Chümoukedima, Nikito Zhimomi has informed the biological parent, legal guardian, or having any lawful claim to contact the DCPU or appear before the CWC within 60 days from the date of the notice, along with valid documentary proof. MVC 5th Mile condemns
Model Village Council (MVC), 5th Mile, Chümoukedima, has condemned the abandonment of the newborn baby boy. In a press release, MVC stated that the infant was discovered inside a black polythene bag under a tree at around 7:20 p.m. by residents, who were alerted by the baby’s cries. The child was immediately rescued, given emergency care and feeding at a nearby house, and later handed over to Child Helpline workers in stable condition. The council termed the act “inhuman” and called upon law enforcement authorities to expedite investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
